Video: Slavia Prague dressing room’s reaction as draw with Chelsea was made

Here we have a classic case of: dressing room eruption after minnows draw big dogs in football cup competition.

It’s understandable, Chelsea are a European force, having won the Champions League in 2012 and the Europa League the following year.

We are one of the firm favourites to win the competition, especially now one of Arsenal or Napoli will be exiting at the quarter-final stage.

Slavia Prague, on the other hand, play in the Czech First League, and didn’t even win it last season. Their route into this stage has been mightily impressive.

Having finished second in their group, they put Genk and Sevilla to the sword in the knockout rounds to get their name in the hat for the quarter-final draw.

Chelsea’s name was drawn with their own, with the entire dressing room exploding in what appeared to be delight.

While it’s very charming that their players will be honoured to play at Stamford Bridge, it does seem a little odd cheering the draw which has essentially signed and sealed your exit from the competition.

Not to appear arrogant, but Chelsea are the overwhelming favourites. Slavia Prague could have had a much better shot at continuing this extraordinary journey if the draw was different.

Perhaps we’re being cynical…
