Three-goal Chelsea striker left out of Europa League clash against Dynamo Kiev

Gonzalo Higuain has been left out of Chelsea’s traveling contingent to Ukraine ahead of their clash with Dynamo Kiev on Thursday.

The Blues are not with their lead striker for the game, with Maurizio Sarri citing illness as the reason. He reveals the Argentina international has had a fever in the last couple of days and will be rested for the game.

“He had fever after the Premier League match for two days, so yesterday we decided to leave him at home to recover for the next match”

It is expected that Olivier Giroud will start this second leg clash of the round of 16 having scored six goals this season in the competition so far. His goals put him fourth in the top scorers’ chart this season.

Sarri has kept faith with the Frenchman ahead of Higuain or Morata in the Europa League. The Italian coach, however, would likely have named Higuain on the bench but for his illness.

Since moving from Italy to the Premier League, Higuain only has three goals to his name and would have to remarkably improve those numbers if he’s to convince the club and fans about his future stay.
