Spanish publication El Confidencial have attempted to offer some insight into Florentino Perez’s plans for the upcoming summer – and some of the information is of interest to Chelsea.
Chelsea and Real Madrid could soon find themselves on the negotiating table – and not over Eden Hazard. Rather, in hope of reaching a decision as to where Mateo Kovacic’s future lies.
Kovacic has spent the season on-loan at Chelsea, becoming an important member of Maurizio Sarri’s squad. He’s yet to successfully nail down a starting spot, but has enjoyed plenty of game-time.
It’s unclear whether he has done enough for Chelsea to be convinced that he’s worth purchasing on a permanent basis, but El Confidencial have revealed the figure we’d have to pay if we decided he has.
The report claims that Perez is hoping to bank €50M (£42.6M) through the sale of Kovacic, whether that be to Chelsea or any other interested party. It’s unclear if our transfer ban could prohibit the purchase.
It’s very much a matter of opinion whether Kovacic is worth that cash. We’re inclined to believe that Sarri, who has used him plenty, would be willing to pay it – would you, Blues?
