It all started so well for both of them back in the Autumn, but since then things have tailed off. Mason got a bad injury, and Derby have been in similar form to Chelsea since, increasing the pressure steadily on Frank Lampard as they fall away from the playoffs.

Some helpful bloke on Twitter called Jack Hasler has crunched the numbers of how the Rams have got on with and without Mason, and the results are even more stark than you might expect:

He’s due back from injury in the next set of Championship fixtures, and Derby will need him to hit the ground running if they want him to turn their season around at the vital moment. It could be vital for his and Frank’s future.
