Chelsea’s worst fears realised as Real Madrid push forward with interest in star man

Real Madrid have made their move to sign Eden Hazard from Chelsea in wake of Zinedine Zidane’s return, according to the Telegraph.

This is the news which we had feared would come as the summer transfer window approaches. Hazard and Real Madrid’s mutual fondness is the worst kept secret in football, with his precarious contract situation certainly not helping matters.

Chelsea’s reliance on Hazard, which was exposed once more at the weekend against Wolves, is a concern, especially with the Telegraph publishing information which suggests a move away from Stamford Bridge could very much be on the cards.

The Telegraph claim that Real Madrid are pushing forward with their interest in Hazard, with the player’s childhood idol, Zinedine Zidane, making a surprise return to the Los Blancos hotset on Monday afternoon.

The Telegraph’s understanding is that Hazard will ask to make the move to Real Madrid this summer, with Zidane’s return providing further motivation for him to do so. It’s claimed Chelsea will demand a fee in the region of £100M.

With a transfer ban looming, Chelsea could do without the departure of their talisman becoming a strong possibility. A man who is head and shoulders above his attacking counterparts would be literally irreplaceable. We face a nervous wait for confirmation over his future to arrive.
