Maurizio Sarri has identified another one of his former players to solve midfield problem at Chelsea

Matteo Kovacic has had over 40 chances this season to bag a goal, but he has struggled to achieve this, despite playing mostly in a more advanced role. His partner in attack, N’Golo Kante has three goals to his name, playing ahead of Jorginho who sits deep.

With the Blues struggling to get goals out of their forward line, the midfield has also failed to contribute their fair share and according to TuttoSport in Italy, Maurizio Sarri is now looking at one of his former players in Italy with Empoli to beef up his options in the central area of the pitch.

Kante is an efficient tackler and interceptor of the ball, but the former Leicester City midfield anchor looks out of place in his new role up front. Kovacic is still adjusting to life in the Premier League while Ross Barkley has looked only good enough to be cover for regulars.

Matias Vecino now with Inter Milan is one of the most coveted midfielders in the Serie A and Sarri wants to sign him next summer.
