Juve must accept their Gonzalo Higuain price is too high if they want to sell him

Gonzalo Higuain is on loan at Chelsea with an option to buy this season, but as it stands it doesn’t look like we’ll be taking up that option.

According to the Sun, it would cost us £33m to buy him, a fee which looks increasingly unrealistic every time he huffs and puffs around for us for another 90 minutes.

Even if we can sign players this summer, it’s hard to imagine a board who has been so reluctant to even give out contracts to over 30s spending £30m+ on one, no matter how thin we end up in attack (perhaps as thin as the hair on Gonzalo’s crown…)

Then again, they could always sell him to China or the MLS, but even they tend to pay big wages rather than big fees these days.

Perhaps the Italian giants will see that they aren’t getting the money they want for their striker, and will just accept a lower fee to get his monster wages off their books.

Certainly they don’t seem likely to be getting the full whack. If we really can’t register anyone new, maybe we’ll see another year added to his loan. But without a sudden spurt of goals in the final months of the season, £33m looks like a fantasy number.
