Chelsea’s first-half stat sheet paints familiar picture of Sarriball inefficiency

Chelsea’s stats heading into half-time at Goodison Park paint a familiar picture. Plenty of possession, bags of opportunities, but no goals to show for it.

This has been a common theme, and a common criticism, of Sarri-ball during its first season at Chelsea. While you have to acknowledge that we are controlling games both more convincingly and stylishly than we were previously, it’s no good if you can’t put the ball in the back of the opposition’s net.

That’s what Chelsea have failed to do so far on Merseyside, despite being dominant throughout the opening 45 minutes of the contest. Have a look at these stats, which have been provided by BBC Sport. They don’t make for fond reading from a Blues fan’s perspective…

Though it’s commendable to have gone to a ground like Goodison and had a 66% share of the ball and ten first-half attempts at goal, Liverpool’s performance at this ground was not dissimilar – and they ended up being frustrated the entire game and dropped two points.

We can’t afford to do that. We need a breakthrough. Come on Chels!
