Chelsea transfer target signs new contract

Juventus have announced on their website that defender Daniele Rugani has signed a new contract, which will keep him locked up until 2023.

The young defender has shown real quality playing for the Old Lady in the last couple of years as a backup to the more famous members of the back lines there, and is showing the kind of for that saw Chelsea linked with him last year almost constantly in places like the Daily Express.

Before the possibility of a deal really depended on the fact that Rugani wasn’t playing as much as he wanted, but he seems to be less concerned about that now.

This new contract makes him a lot more expensive, and probably ends our interest in him for good. It appeared he was a player Maurizio Sarri really liked, given they shared a former club in Empoli.

Sarri didn’t get him in the end though, and we were left with Rudiger and Luiz as our starting centre backs. Now Rugani is off the table for good – not that we can sign any players as it is anyway.
