Chelsea set to make decision on Gonzalo Higuain’s future

Despite spending only the last two months at Chelsea, Gonzalo Higuain already has his days numbered at the club according to a report by Marca in Spain.

The reports say the Blues are ready to offload the South American to his parent club Juventus next summer after failing to impress on his loan stint. Maurizio Sarri personally requested for the player to be signed by Chelsea in the January transfer window, dispensing of the services of Alvaro Morata who joined Atletico Madrid on loan, but Higuain has looked a shadow of his former self.

The Blues could sign the striker permanently for £35 million after the end of this season as per the terms in the initial contract, but are reportedly opting against it. There is also the possibility to extend the loan deal until 2020 for a fee of £16 million, but neither option pleases Chelsea as it stands.

The 32-year old has scored three goals in ten appearances for Chelsea since his arrival in January. He’ll have to do a little better than that.
