Chelsea accused of “wasting £120m” in another disaster summer

The media do talk some utter rubbish, but today’s article in the Express is really pushing new boundaries in gutter journalism.

Today someone called “Richard Dockingsworth”, which is by the way one of the least convincing pseudonyms of all time, is going on about Chelsea’s transfer window in the summer.

This fictional writer claims that the money spent on Kepa and Jorginho was “wasted”.

He points out that both started well, before each encountering problems more recently – Jorginho with his performances, and Kepa with his behaviour.

It’s true that both have had difficult spells as the season has gone on, but it seems backwards to hold their strong starts against them. Are we forgetting the long unbeaten run to start the season that gave us enough of a cushion that we’ve been able to survive this horrendous blip recently?

Overall the money might well end up being wasted, that’s football. But writing off two players after seasons which Richard himself acknowledges have been mixed rather than bad, seems incredibly harsh, and more importantly, inaccurate.
