BREAKING: David Luiz set to receive new contract as Chelsea prepare for transfer struggles

David Luiz is set to sign a new contract at Chelsea, according to reports in the last hour in the Evening Standard.

Today’s edition has quotes from the Brazilian, who spoke about his love for Chelsea and his determination to stay on beyond the end of his current deal this summer.

Chelsea are in trouble thanks to the transfer ban hanging over them, so it’s no surprise to see them move to prevent first team stars from leaving.

Luiz had been expected to leave in the summer once this deal was up, but the amount he has played this season combined with the fact that we’re unlikely to be able to replace him has meant he’s going to get an extension on his stay.

It won’t be a super popular move footballing-wise, given our defensive struggles at times this season, but nobody can deny he’s class on his day, and we’re not in a position to be letting first team players go given the circumstances.
