‘He likes to be a defender’ – Azpi reveals Chelsea forward who could have a future at the back

Cesar Azpilicueta has suggested that Chelsea teammate Eden Hazard could have a future in alongside him in defence.

Hazard is renown for his abilities on the front foot. He’s one of the most dangerous attacking players anywhere in the world, but it doesn’t appear as though it’s the only position he enjoys playing in.

During an interview with the official Chelsea website, Azpilicueta revealed that Hazard often opts for a position in DEFENCE during training:

“What I will say is Eden, when we play small games, he likes to be a defender – a ball-playing defender!”

Hazard certainly has the ball-playing ability to function in that role, but something tells us that his shortfalls in terms of physicality may let him down a little.

Can you imagine him next to David Luiz in a back two? That would be the most erratic, yet most entertaining, defensive duo of all-time.

Perhaps Maurizio Sarri needs to give it a try at some point, just to see how it’ll turn out. In pre-season of course. We’ve already lost 6-0 once this season…
