“I was always relaxed” – Maurizio Sarri reveals he has been planning with club about next season

The pressure that comes with being Chelsea’s head coach is boundless but Maurizio Sarri has handled what he has faced well so far. He even boasts he never lost sleep over recent talk that will be sacked by the club amid his side’s loss of form.

Chelsea went on a calamitous run earlier this year, losing 6-0 to Manchester City and 4-0 to Bournemouth in the Premier League and despite a big 5-0 victory over Huddersfield, Sarri was said to be on his way out of Stamford Bridge. The Blues top hierarchy were reported to be losing patience with him and many expected the former Napoli boss to be readying himself for a journey back home to Italy.

But he remains in London. In fact, Chelsea are looking a new side lately. They played brilliantly against Man City in the Carabao Cup final, earning a draw after extra time, before beating Spurs 2-0 a few days after. Then the 2017 Premier League champions dealt a derby defeat to Fulham on Sunday to cap a good week.

Sarri admits he feels ‘happier’ now but also revealed he has been making plans with his bosses for next season:

“I feel the same as before, but happier because the results are positive. When everyone talked about my dismissal, I was talking with the club to plan the team for next season, so I was always relaxed.”
