Stats show Sarri is struggling to solve Kante problem

Chelsea midfielder N’Golo Kante is a quiet guy, and probably doesn’t like being the centre of attention. But there’s no escaping for him at the moment, as his position in Maurizio Sarri’s Chelsea setup has become a major talking point for pundits.

WhoScored him with a 5.85 against Manchester City, his lowest score since the Bournemouth game. These are the only two games he’s dipped below a 6 all season.

That shows just how much he’s suffering in this setup, playing in a more advanced role.

He was great in attacking areas against Huddersfield, but in this game he looked panicked and missed a lot of simple passes.

In all honesty, regardless of where he’s playing in the system, when the team are pressing suicidally like they did against City, he’s always going to be caught out.

He’s able to win the ball back high up the pitch a lot in this system, but the flip side of that coin is that opposition teams are able to break past him and cut him out of the game, leaving his defenders vulnerable.

It’s a conundrum that Sarri seems unable to solve. He better get thinking though, as we face the Citizens again in just a matter of days.
