Morata misery moves to Madrid as striker’s side slip up

Alvaro Morata was smiling for that seemed like the first time in an age when he arrived at Atletioo Madrid, but it hasn’t lasted long.

After 19 games unbeaten, and an unbeaten run for Diego Simeone against Real Betis that went back to 2011, Atletico Madrid let themselves get infected by the Morata curse as the striker started for his boyhood club for the first time.

They lost 1-0 to the Andalusians, missing the chance to gain on Barcelona, who had drawn with Valencia in La Liga a day earlier. His partnership with Antoine Griezmann up front didn’t look too hot, although it’s their first game together to be fair.

The striker should have had a penalty, in fairness, but he was denied it and his side were unable to find the back of the net.

He’ll surely score a few, and Atleti shouldn’t be too troubled by this setback as Betis as a good side. It’s just not the dream start he would have wanted back in Spain.
