Why Manchester United success can be double-edged sword for Chelsea

Chelsea fans don’t want Man United to do well.

They are our rivals for a Champions League spot, and every point they drop is a massive bonus for us as we look increasingly forlorn in our attempts to return to Europe’s top competition.

But there are grounds for Chelsea fans to at least take some positives from any Manchester Untied success this season.

The Red Devils are doing so well with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in charge that they are increasingly likely to stick with the Norwegian long term.

That means one less big dog in the fight for coaches this summer, should Chelsea decide to get rid of Sarri. Mauricio Pochettino is unlikely to give up what he’s built at Spurs just to move to Chelsea, but United could tempt him.

More realistically, as suggested by the Evening Standard today, is Zinedine Zidane. The Frenchman would be tempted by United, but should they stick with their interim manager, Chelsea would almost be a shoo-in for the former Real man.
