“I felt that the club did not want me anymore… it is unpleasant” – Chelsea’s £40m signing explains why he had to go

Tiemoue Bakayoko has had quite a whirlwind few seasons.

After breaking out with the title winning Monaco side a few years back, he was snapped up by Chelsea to reinforce Antonio Conte’s title winning squad.

He chose a bad time to arrive on the scene though, and the whole club basically fell apart within months of his time in England.

After a promising debut, his performances got worse and worse, and it was no surprise to see him shipped off to Italy on loan this year.

He’s bounced back since being there however, and in quotes carried by CalcioMercato, he explains why he left the Bridge.

“I left Chelsea because I felt that the club did not want me anymore,” the midfielder explained.

“Of course, I was sorry. I’ve been there for a year, it did not go as I had expected. It was a simple and difficult decision at the same time to be taken because Chelsea are Chelsea and I do not think I have shown my skills, so it is unpleasant.”

That’s understandable, and he’s fairly polite about it. But the fact that a £40m signing feels unwanted after 12 months isn’t just down to him. He’s done really well to bounce back in Milan, and we wish him all the best in the rest of his career – which probably won’t be at Chelsea, unless something dramatic changes.
