Dortmund chief slates Pulisic development after poor Champions League performance

Christian Pulisic signed for Chelsea in January, but will remain with his current club Borussia Dortmund until the end of the season.

That gives him the chance to play in the Champions League, a chance he was taking advantage of last night when he faced Tottenham Hotspurs.

The German side performed well in the first half, but crumbled in the second and were stuck with a 3-0 first leg loss that puts them in serious danger of going out.

But, according to quotes carried in the Metro, Sebastian Kehl, who now works for the club, wasn’t happy with the American international’s performance.

“He is a very young player and is learning to handle these things. He gets all the support from us, but on the field he has to work for himself. Now he is just not reaching his performance level,” the German international said after last night’s game.

Those criticisms are probably fair. He worked hard but was pretty ineffective overall, especially in the second half. Then again, his massively hyped replacement Jadon Sancho wasn’t much better.

There is a long way to go for Christian at Chelsea, and we’re sure he will develop a lot more. But if he wants to get near our first team, he’ll have to raise his level.
