The clearest sign that Maurizio Sarri’s days are numbered at Chelsea

The atmosphere at Stamford Bridge at the inception of Chelsea’s defeat to Manchester United was a charged one. The home fans were in the mood to support their team all the way to the end but something changed in there when they fell 2-0 behind their opponents.

The fans joined Man United supporters to chant ‘you are getting sacked in the morning’ in the second half and even were head singing ‘f*** Sarri-ball’. The BBC’s Phil McNulty described the chants as a clear ‘disapproval’ of Sarri’s tactics.

Sarri has failed to win the hearts of some die-hard Blues who would have otherwise stuck with him until the end of the season at least. But some of the Italian’s decisions have been baffling. His substitutions are too predictable, just as his starting line-ups, giving opposition managers the advantage to plot moves excellently against his sides.

Those chants by the Chelsea fans were telling of one fact. They are frustrated by the stubbornness of their head coach and if it has begun like this, the worst is yet to come. If the club’s board feel the pressure from the fans, Sarri’s days at the Bridge are being counted now.
