Chelsea are unquestionably in the mix to sign Madrid superstar this summer

Chelsea have not made many superstar signings in recent years. Our transfer strategy has mainly focused on signing promising young players from around Europe, loaning them out for several years and then selling them to go on to great success elsewhere.

Since the days of Andriy Shevchenko, or Fernando Torres at the very least, we haven’t really been buying star names from big clubs.

That may change this summer. SportWitness cite an article in Catalan paper Sport which names Chelsea as one of the interested teams who may look to sign Gareth Bale this summer.

Bale stands out as a superstar (let’s not forget he scored a bicycle kick in the Champions League final less than a year ago), but he’s one who is uniquely gettable. He’s turning 30, he’s not settled in Madrid, and Los Blancos seem to be looking to get rid of him before he really loses his value.

So while we haven’t signed too many superstars in recent years, that could change this summer if he lose Hazard and see a cut price Bale on the menu.
