Chelsea at risk of losing first team regular as club’s strict transfer policy kicks in again

More reports about Willian’s future are brewing, and they don’t make particularly nice reading – at least if you’re one of the fans who want him to stay.

The Evening Standard have just reported that there is no movement on the Brazilian’s negotiations, which have reached a classic impasse.

The 30 year old has 18 months left on his deal, and wants to see it extended to 2023, according to Simon Johnson.

Now while it’s very believable that Willian wants a longer deal – who wouldn’t – it’s not quite so believable that he would believe he’s going to get one.

After all, the club have a long standing policy of not offering players above 30 more than a year extension to our deal.

They didn’t bend the rules for John Terry or Frank Lampard, does Willian really believe they’ll budge the goalposts just for him?

That long stretch he went without scoring earlier in the season is unlikely to help his cause either.
