The Chelsea player who can secure his first team place tonight

Chelsea face Malmo in Sweden tonight, and there are a few players with a big chance to improve their standing under Maurizio Sarri.

The debacle against Manchester City at the weekend has opened a lot of doors in the first team, and anyone who impresses tonight can expect to be in serious consideration for the starting XI.

Chief among these is Emerson Palmieri. He battled his way into the first team for the Bournemouth match, then lost his place after the battering we took there.

Marcos Alonso, his rival for that spot in the team, was equally bad against City though, and the place is still very much up for grabs.

Sarri confirmed in his press conference yesterday that Alonso has been left in England to “rest”, so we know we’ll see Emerson tonight.

Whether we see him this weekend will depend entirely on how he does in the Stockholm cold this evening.
