It’s been quite the 18 months for a guy as quiet and reserved as Andreas Christensen.
Two seasons ago he was just a squad player going into Antonio Conte’s second season. Within months he had established himself as a starter, he held on to that spot with some impressive displays, then lost it in the chaos that ended that ill-fated spell under the former Juve manager.
This season he’s been all the way back out in the cold again under Maurizio Sarri, and has featured only in the rotated B team that plays in the cups. That was the side that was put out last night, and from reading Chelsea fans’ responses on Twitter, their opinion on his showing was as mixed as his Blues careers so far.
After an impressive game, he was also at fault for Malmo’s goal.
You can see what the Blues fans on Twitter thought of his display in the comments here, collected from Twitter:

Was about to say that Christensen has been quietly good, but then he fails to deal with Rosenberg who assists Malmo’s goal. 🙄

Christensen definitely showing that the confidence is coming back to him. Assured display so far.
Easily the best CB at the club, no question.
If anyone who thinks Luiz or Rudiger is better than him… I must not speak.#CFC #MALCHE #UEL

Christensen and Rudiger are Chelsea’s future so forget about Koulibaly…we need to give our youth prospects a chance to avoid another CHO situation

Christensen has done well today, just over the water from his hometown. Seems Rosenberg targeted him ubt it hasn't worked. #CFC

Malmo leave having had more shots than Chelsea. 15 to 11. 69.9% possession from Sarri's team. Thought Christensen did well, considering he was targeted. Probably my MOTM. Barkley and Kovacic decent enough too #CFC #UEL #MALCHE
