“He wanted to come” – Sevilla sporting director reveals why Alvaro Morata has stayed put at Chelsea

Sevilla sporting director Joaquin Caparros has told the world publicly that the team he is in charge of wanted Alvaro Morata, but also that they have now ended up cancelling their pursuit because of the financial obligation Chelsea wanted the Spanish side to pay.

You can read his quotes here:

Given we paid over £70m for the striker, perhaps it’s no surprise that the mid-table Spanish team weren’t able to offer us enough to persuade us to let Morata go. At this stage, while there’s an element of desperation on our part to get shot of him as soon as possible, we also have to consider the amount we invested, and how best to get a return on it.

Given Barcelona and Atletico Madrid are now being linked with him, maybe we made the right call here. The best thing for us is to not only recoup some of that fee straight away, but also to put himself in a position where he can raise his value again with some goals.
