Pedro’s awesome stats show why he could replace Eden Hazard

All the talk after the match yesterday was about Willian’s goal, David Luiz’s superb passing and debates about Eden Hazard as a false 9. It was easy to forget who really made the difference – Pedro.

Looking back at his stats though, it’s clear just how efficient he was. He had more shots than anyone on the pitch (4), and all of them were on target.

That’s exactly what we needed after two goalless league games at home. Accurate shots on goal to pressure the opposition from early.

His run for the opening goal was perfect. From having the intelligence to sense his chance, to the timing of his move, to the way he slowed down to lift the ball over Martin Dubravka, it was a real striker’s play.

So why not consider Pedro as the false 9, with Eden Hazard back out on the left? We’re sure Maurizio Sarri has his reasons, but to us that seems to suit both players better.
