“He must go” – Sarri’s surprise words over January transfer

The departure of Cesc Fabregas from Chelsea to Monaco is top of the headlines at the moment, and in his press conference going on right now, Maurizio Sarri has been speaking about the potential deal.

He said that “in his opinion”, Fabregas “must go”. Why? Because the French side are offering a two year deal to the 31 year old, while Chelsea are keeping in line with their club policy of just offering one year extensions.

It’s funny to hear a manager speak so frankly about an outgoing player leaving – normally they say that they want them to stay no matter what their real thoughts are – but that’s the advantage of Sarri’s separation from the club’s transfer policy.

He’s able to speak fairly openly about his opinions, because he’s said many times that he has no control over these matters. He may say he’s happy to see Cesc go – but we can be sure he’s been promised a replacement in that case.
