Chelsea have been linked with Ivan Rakitic in recent days, with the front cover of Catalan paper Sport today carrying a cover story on the links, which you can see above.
Rakitic is a fantastic player, and it’s no surprise to see him linked with us as we search for a Cesc Fabregas replacement.
Then again, that’s where the questions begin. We sold Fabregas because he was over 30 and we didn’t want to give him a long extension. Rakitic is only a year younger.
To be honest, to us this looks a lot like news that’s been put out by the Croatian’s party as he enters contract negotiations with Barcelona. He needs them to feel like he’s in demand – which he surely is, just probably not from Chelsea.
We’ll see in the coming weeks if he puts pen to paper on a new deal at the club, or whether these rumours continue and prove to have a little more substance to them.
