“The club wants him to stay” – David Luiz contract showdown takes strange new turn

David Luiz’s contract situation is up in the air now as it has been for some time, but now things are starting to heat up.

The Brazilian’s agent has got involved, which is not a good sign, although his words are positive.

This morning the reports were that the deal was a long way off – as has seemed to be the case for some time.

But now The Sun have an exclusive with Luiz’ agent Kia Joorabchian, who had a very positive quote on the whole matter:

“We are trying to work out a deal for David Luiz because he wants to stay, the manager wants him to stay and so does the club. I’m sure something will be worked out.”

Luiz had a typically Luiz game at the weekend, setting up the first goal with a lovely pass then slacking off to allow Ciaran Clark to equalise.

Our policy is to not offer long contracts to players over 30, and we don’t expect that to change soon. However, if Sarri likes him – which he seems to – and Luiz wants to stay as Kia says, then we agree with the agent that something will surely get worked out.

But if Luiz wants a multi-year extension above all, then like Fabregas, he will have to look elsewhere.
