Why Chelsea rejected Barcelona’s impressive Willian offer

Barcelona were linked with Willian during the summer, with offers north of £50m being mentioned in the press.

That ended up coming to nothing, and recently Chelsea fans have been cursing their luck that a deal wasn’t struck. The Brazilian’s poor form is notable this season, and there are so ugly stats doing the rounds about how long it’s been since his last goal or assist.

He’s even lost his place to youngster Callum Hudson-Odoi, it seems.

But maybe those fans can stop pulling their hair out: there are whispers that the La Liga giants are coming back this winter and the Telegraph lead the avalanche of rumours that the  winger could be on his way to Catalonia once again.

They claim that Barcelona have made an offer, including their own troubled attacker Malcom.

As they did in the summer, Chelsea have rejected the proposal. Their reasoning? According to the Telegraph, they consider him a “key member of their squad” and are looking to “strengthen rather than let first team regulars go”.

Quite a lot of Chelsea fans would think we can improve our roster significantly by letting Willian go. Clearly the board don’t agree.
