Chelsea have reportedly accepted a loan offer from Lazio for Davide Zappacosta.
The right back has featured in Maurizio Sarri’s second string all season, after periods in the first team under Antonio Conte last term. That’s clearly not enough for him, and he wants out.
The Sun are among the major sites reporting on that deal, and they say that we’re going to send the 26 year old back to Italy on loan, including a £13.5m option to buy. That would represent a big loss on the £25m we paid for him on deadline day two summers ago, which looked a lot even at the time.
It looked a last minute Antonio Conte panic buy, and so it proved to be. That’s a real shame, and we missed out on the chance to have Ola Aina in the squad. Aina ended up going to Torino to ultimately replace Zappacosta.
We look like we there the losers in that deal now.
