Chelsea poised to seal second January transfer after making £26.8m bid for midfield target

Chelsea have reportedly made an offer to complete the deal for Leandro Paredes from Zenit St. Petersburg this month and make him their second signing of the winter transfer window.

The Blues have targeted the creative midfielder to fill the void left by Cesc Fabregas after he left the London club for struggling French Ligue 1 side AS Monaco. According to the Daily Mail, Maurizio Sarri sees the Argentina international as the perfect replacement for Fabregas and also good enough competition for Jorginho who seems to be finding life difficult in the Premier League lately.

The London Evening Standard report that Chelsea have made an opening bid of £26.8 million for the midfielder, although it may be difficult to say the Blues will seal the deal for him. The player, however, is believed to be on the verge of signing for his former side back in Argentina, Boca Juniors, who just made the Copa Libertadores final last season.

The Standard also say Chelsea are hoping to beat Boca to Paredes’ signing with a salary offer ‘worth around £80,000-a-week’.
