Chelsea give up on €40m clause for versatile winger

German paper BILD have an interesting report this week, where they say that Chelsea have agreed to not use their “first option” clause on Thorgan Hazard.

The Blues sold Eden’s brother to Borussia Monchengladbach two summers ago, and like plenty of other cast-offs from our academy,  he’s found great success.

That’s lead to interest from Borussia Dortmund, who look set to sign the Belgian in the summer for around €40m according to that report.

There was one stumbling block to prevent Lucien Favre’s side having a clear run at him though – the first option clause Chelsea had which would allow the chance to match any bid accepted by Monchengladbach.

But that piece in BILD says that Maurizio Sarri’s side have agreed to give up their first option on Hazard as part of the deal to bring Christian Pulisic to the club from Dortmund. That means the yellow-blacks can be certain of replacing the Chelsea bound winger… with a former Chelsea winger.
