Chelsea face tough decision over January transfer – but is anyone qualified to make it?

Chelsea opened this January window with a bang, announcing the signing of Christian Pulisic in the fledgling moments of 2019.

But now things have changed a little. Cesc Fabregas has been shown the exit door, but his replacement has yet to arrive. Cagliari’s Nicolo Barella has been reported as our prime target, but quotes from his club today make a January move sound very unlikely.

That leaves us with Leandro Paredes, who has emerged as the second choice behind Barella. The Argentine started as the cheap option, but Goal.com‘s reports now value him at €40m+.

Of course the advantage would be that we can sign him now, and get him playing for the second half of this season. We’re desperately in need of cover, especially with the rumours that Ruben Loftus-Cheek may need back surgery. On the other hand, if we really like Barella as a better option, would we be mad to give up on him for an inferior player just for 6 months? Might we regret it should the Italian star go

These are tough questions, and you have to wonder if there’s anyone at Chelsea with enough of a plan to answer them.
