Chelsea cannot afford any more slip ups if the top four is still considered priority this season

In December, Maurizio Sarri insisted Chelsea must fight to make top four in the Premier League this season after the Blues lost twice in three games to damage their dreams of winning another title.

Via Goal, Sarri confirmed his main objective for the campaign was to finish among the top four clubs and despite an astonishing 18-games unbeaten in all competitions before those defeats against Tottenham and Wolves it will still be a tough ask. There was very little Chelsea could do about Spurs’ intensity but the loss to Wolves exposed Sarri’s toothless side.

Three losses in total and five draws has left Chelsea in fourth position since November, unable to overtake Tottenham and Man City who are four and six points clear in third and second respectively.

Only three points ahead of Arsenal and six off Man United, Chelsea can no longer afford to lose points in the remaining games of the season. It’s an impossible task, but the pressure Arsenal and Man United will mount in the coming months will not allow any room for mistakes.
