Why Cesc Fabregas will not play against Tottenham on Tuesday despite not completing move to AS Monaco

Chelsea will be without Cesc Fabregas for their trip to Tottenham Hotspur on Tuesday for the first leg od the EFL Cup semi-final.

The Blues who beat Bournemouth 1-0 to progress to the last four of the Carabao Cup will face Mauricio Pochettino’s side for a place in the final. Maurizio Sarri hopes for a full complement of his squad but has already signaled Cesc Fabregas will not be in his matchday squad.

The reports circulating in recent weeks have shown that the Spain international will not play in English football anymore after agreeing to a deal to join AS Monaco this month. However, following his 87-minute display against Nottingham Forest in the FA Cup third round last weekend, Fabregas has yet to complete the deal to the French giants.

The confusion, however, wasn’t settled by Sarri who insists he does not know how far negotiations have gone, but the Italian coach suggested Fabregas needs rest and will not be in his squad to play in the London derby on Tuesday.
