Why Callum Hudson-Odoi isn’t in the Chelsea team

The Chelsea team is out, and fans are going mad that Callum Hudson-Odoi isn’t starting. But they shouldn’t be.

It was clear that CHO wasn’t gong to play. We didn’t have him in our predicted XI for this game, and for good reason.

Maurizio Sarri, in his prematch press conference, actually effectively told us that the youngster wouldn’t play from the start today. The Italian coach pointed out that while Callum and Andreas Christensen had done well when called into action against both Nottingham Forest last weekend and Tottenham on Tuesday, they had played twice in a short period having not played much before.

He didn’t say it out loud, but what he was saying was that neither would start today.

So as much as we’d like to see him, and we’re sure we will in the second half, don’t think that Sarri isn’t just keeping him fresh and ready for the first tema.
