“My best example is Frank Lampard” – Paul Pogba credits Chelsea legend for recent top form

Chelsea legend Frank Lampard is Paul Pogba’s ‘best example’ as the France international begins his surge back to top form.

Pogba has scored four goals and registered four assists since Jose Mourinho left as Manchester United manager. Since Ole Gunnar Solskjaer arrived as interim boss, the Red Devils have won six games in the Premier League and the French international has been integral to their return to fine form.

His presence in and around the box is causing mayhem in opposition defences at the moment, and he points at one former Chelsea player as his mentor.

Admitting he will not play to his best as a defensive midfielder, Pogba says Lampard’s ability to get to the end of crosses and passes and beat his man before scoring is what he is hoping to emulate at this stage of his career.

“Sometimes I can go, but defending is not my best attribute. Where I play there with the team we understand each other. I think my position there is where I feel most comfortable.

“That’s what the manager told me to do — get in the box — get goals because we’ll score goals if we get in the box. My best example is Frank Lampard.”

He certainly has a long way to go before reaching Lampard goalscoring heights. The former England international grabbed 211 goals in all competitions for the Blues in his 13-year stay at Stamford Bridge.
