“We need to improve in this” – Maurizio Sarri outlines what Chelsea need to do to keep winning until end of season

Chelsea head coach Maurizio Sarri has told his stars to keep the ‘motivation’ levels very high up if they want to continue winning games until the end of the season.

The Blues secured a high profile victory over Manchester City last weekend. The win was unexpected as Chelsea were the poorer when the current form of both sides was taken into consideration. After winning only two of the last five games in all competitions, the 2016/17 Champions went into the game as underdogs.

Man City were unbeaten in the league winning 13 of their first 15 games but tasted their first loss of the campaign at Stamford Bridge. Chelsea ceded possession to Pep Guardiola’s side but were very clinical when the chances fell to them, scoring two goals in each half to earn all three points.

Most admirable of the players was the fact they put in a lot of effort into achieving the result and Sarri says if his team can maintain that level of motivation against the remaining opponents in the league, they can attain very high standards.

“The players are able to defend, of course, but they are not able to have the same level of application and level of determination in every match so we need to improve this. We need to improve and we need to be able to play with the same levels as we did in this match in every other game.

I can understand it is easier to have a strong motivation against Manchester City, but I know very well in Brighton there will be three points to play for, so we need the same levels of motivation and application – we need to improve in this.”
