Maurizio Sarri points out that he changed Kante’s position to play where fans wanted

After bad defeats against Spurs and Wolves, lots of Chelsea fans and pundits had said Maurizio Sarri’s playing of N’Golo Kante high up the pitch was a mistake.

But when asked about how he thought Kante did in a more attacking role, Sarri immediately said that, in fact, he’d played deeper alongside Jorginho in this game, just as fans had demanded.

“Today he played really very close to Jorginho,” he was quick to point out, despite the interviewer not having mentioned the previous discussion of their positioning.

It’s ironic then that Kante was the man who got the goal to open the scoring then, although then again he only was able to get on the end of that ball because he was arriving late in the box from so deep.
