Maurizio Sarri has been at Chelsea for a good while now, and we’re starting to figure out a little more about his personality.
He’s very honest, that’s for sure. After last week being openly critical of N’Golo Kante after his showing against Spurs, this week it was Marcos Alonso who was the subject of his ire:
Sarri on Alonso's performance vs Fulham: "Alonso knows very well that he didn't play well. It can happen. We will see the situation with the back" #CFC

Sarri acknowledges Marcos Alonso didn't play very well on Sunday and says his back problem might have worsened during the game. He will check on his fitness during training, and speak to the left-back too. #WOLCHE

It’s a fair criticism – Alonso was very poor at Stamford Bridge at the weekend, but it’s still unusual in the modern game to be so open with his criticism. It worked well on Kante – he returned from his bad game to star against the Whites, picking up an assist for Pedro within 5 minutes.
Let’s hope it has a similar effect on Marcos, who has some decent competition in the form of Emerson Palmieri, who is likely to play tomorrow night thanks to the minor back injury suffered by the Spaniard.
With Manchester City on the horizon, let’s hope it’s nothing serious.
