Former Chelsea midfielder names Sarri’s “first two names on the team-sheet every week”

Dennis Wise knows a thing or two about playing in midfield for Chelsea, and he’s weighed in on the debate that’s been building for some time and has now come to a head with sudden defeats to Tottenham and Wolves in recent weeks.

It’s all to do with N’Golo Kante and Jorginho, and who should play where. Lots of Chelsea fans are blaming the shift of Kante forward from the deeper position he occupied usually to accommodate Jorginho as costing the team stability, but Wise disagrees.

He sees them both playing together in a deeper role, with either Ross Barkley or RLC in a more attacking role. To him, the idea that Kante is higher up the pitch is more of an issue of perception.

“I think he likes having these other two more defensive players and then encouraging these more offensive players to go forwards and that’s the way he kind of plays. I think there’s more competition in that three than there is in the other two spots, from what I see,” Wise said in quotes carried on Goal.com.

“I think Kante and Jorginho are the first two names on the team-sheet every week. It is not about them two not fully clicking, I think they have,” he went on.

There’s no question that right now they are two very important players for Sarri, and even if he does tweak his system to suit them, they will remain vital cogs for him, this season and beyond.
