Why Chelsea won’t face stadium ban even if found guilty of anti-Semitic chants

Chelsea could face a stadium ban if they are found guilty of  the antisemitic chanting their fans were accused of in Hungary on Thursday night.

The Evening Standard is among the papers reporting that UEFA are investigating the claims, and will punish Chelsea with a reduced capacity or behind closed doors fixture if they’re found guilty – but there would need to be another incident for the latter.

Even if found guilty, this would be only Chelsea’s first offence, so they’d likely only suffer a partial closure or a warning.

If it were to happen again, however, the repercussions would be a lot more serious. We would be forced to play a game behind closed doors, losing revenue and the home advantage of the crowd – as well as having the club’s name dragged through the mud all over again.

But that’s nothing to worry about, because it’s just not going to happen – is it?
