Chelsea tell Gary Cahill he can leave in January and surprise club make him top target

Unai Emery is building something special at the Emirates stadium this season with his Arsenal side going 21 games unbeaten in all competitions since losing 3-2 to Chelsea in August.

The Gunners are still pushing to beef up their squad and have identified Manchester United central defender Eric Bailly and Chelsea’s Gary Cahill. Both are fine defenders but have seen their stock fall in their respective clubs. Jose Mourinho has gone mostly this season with Chris Smalling and Victor Lindelof and despite shuffling his back four frequently, Bailly has made only six appearances in the Premier League and one each in the Champions League and EFL Cup.

Cahill is also struggling under new trainer Maurizio Sarri, who has stuck with David Luiz and Antonio Rudiger in his preferred four-man defense.

According to ESPN, Emery who has already lost Rob Holding to a long-term injury is looking to sign Cahill in January as a short-term replacement. The 32-year old who has six months remaining on his current deal has been reportedly been told by Chelsea that he can leave in the winter transfer window for regular games elsewhere.
