Chelsea take one piece of bad news away from amazing Man City win

Chelsea are celebrating an unlikely victory over Man City after a quite astonishing game, but there was some bad news.

Mateo Kovacic limped off in the second half and was replaced by Ross Barkley. The team were able to survive, and even add a second goal, but the Croatian nursing what looked like his hamstring was not what anyone wanted to see.

We await Maurizio Sarri’s post-match press conference to see how bad it is – it didn’t look like a tear, but certainly a tweak would keep him out a week or two. That would mean missing our game against MOL Vidi – no great loss – as well as Brighton in the Premier League next weekend.

The good news is that we’re flush with replacements. Both Barkley and Ruben Loftus-Cheek came on in the game, and both have put in very good performances recently. They will provide more than adequate cover if Kovacic is out for an extended period.
