Chelsea set to award third star in two last months with new bumper contract

Chelsea are set to award Cesar Azpilicueta a new contract worth £30,000 more than he currently earns per week.

According to the Telegraph, the Blues will tie Azpilicueta down to a new deal that expires in 2022. The Spain international’s ongoing contract with Chelsea ends in 2020 but after impressing Maurizio Sarri with his leadership skills and supreme defensive ability, Blues chiefs will increase his weekly wage and extend his contract length.

He took over the Chelsea captaincy this season after Gary Cahill lost his regular spot in the first team. The 29-year old has been one of the most consistent performers in the Chelsea shirt since signing for the Blues in 2012.

He currently plays at right fullback, alongside David Luiz, Antonio Rudiger, and Marcos Alonso. Azpilicueta now will join the latter and N’Golo Kante as the three players to have received contract extensions from the club in the last two months if he accepts the deal on the table.
