Would Chelsea let long term servant join Arsenal?

Gary Cahill looks set to feature for Chelsea against MOL Vidi in the Europa League tonight, in what could be his last game for the club.

There are rumours reported in the Metro today, that Arsenal are interested in the defender, whose contract runs out in the summer. There have also been whispers linking him to European clubs, given he’ll be able to negotiate with them openly from January 1st.

That seems like a far more appealing option for the Blues. Yes they’ll lose Cahill for free, but they will also have him around for the second half of the season in case of injury.

More importantly, it will deny Arsenal an experienced and solid defender, who could seriously enjoy the benefits of bringing in a good centre-back with Rob Holding out injured long term.

We shouldn’t forget that we’re battling them directly for a top four space. The Champions League is worth a lot more than that.
