Which Chelsea legend helped bring N’Golo Kante to the club?

Didier Drogba has been trying to claim some credit for Chelsea’s signing of N’Golo Kante.

The Ivorian forward has quotes in the Daily Mail where he insists that he used his influence at the club to ensure that they made the move for the former Leicester midfielder in 2016.

After his arrival, Chelsea went on to win the Premier League immediately, proving straight off the bat that the signing was a smart one.

“I’m very proud of him,’ said Drogba. ‘I’m glad he chose Chelsea and the club listened to my advice, that they chose him. I’m glad I did not make a mistake,” he is quoted as saying, perhaps with a little tongue in cheek.

“I told them that we should not miss him. When? I told them when he started at Leicester.”

We don’t doubt Drogba put forward the little Frenchman’s forward, but let’s not pretend it was much of a reach. He’d just dominated the Premier League for Leicester, and was in demand for most clubs across the continent.

On the other hand, we’ve always wondered why Kante chose us over the wealth of other options he had that summer – maybe we now finally know what made up his mind?

It’s hard to say no to the King.
