Chelsea concede goal after bizarre Ruben Loftus-Cheek socks incident

Chelsea had the lead against Brighton and looked to be cruising to victory, but that’s all changed now.

Brighton have grabbed a goal back, and it all had to do with Ruben Loftus-Cheek’s socks.

The midfielder was standing ready to come on long before the goal, but the fourth official Kevin Friend noted he had some kind of issue with the socks the substitute was wearing.

That meant a wardrobe change, and with half the team glancing over to the sideline to work out what was going on, Brighton set to work with a lovely move that eventually lead to the goal.

The Chelsea bench were complaining afterwards that they hadn’t been able to get their man on the pitch, but what can you really say? The players on the pitch should be focused at all times, no matter what’s going on on the sidelines.

As for Ruben – he’s got to be ready to come on at a moment’s notice.

Sarri will not be happy.
