“Benched forever” – Prominent Chelsea loanee fails another attempt at the first team.

Chelsea fans have always had high hopes for Lewis Baker.

After coming out of the youth academy plenty thought as highly of him as they did of Tammy Abraham and Dom Solanke, and a really good loan at Vitesse only raised his profile.

It was felt that a move to Marcelo Bielsa’s Leeds this season might be the springboard that the midfielder needed, but instead he’s been stuck on the bench.

He finally got a chance to start today against Bolton, but he really didn’t impress.

The slew of replies to a Tweet by Phil Hay of the Yorkshire Evening Post was all you needed to see to know that Baker didn’t chance his chance:

That’s a huge shame, as this season felt like his last chance to show he could ever be a Chelsea player. Now he’s got a battle on to even prove that he’s got what it takes to play in the Premier League, let alone for the Blues.
